THE ARABIAN
    The Arabian is not only one of the most beautiful of all
horse breeds but also, one of the most versatile.  Combining
a beautiful dished head, sculpted muzzle, small ears and
large intelligent eyes with unmatched stamina, durability,
athleticism and intelligence the Arabian has been dubbed by
some as the "elegant athlete".
    Arabians and Half-Arabians compete in many disciplines
including:  Endurance Racing, Competitive Trail Riding,
Hunter/Jumper, Western Pleasure, Reining, Cutting, Dressage,
English Pleasure, Driving, Racing and more.  If one attends
and "Arabian/ Half-Arabian Horse Show" they would see Arabian
horses competing in all of the previously mentioned disciplines
and many more.  One of the most exciting and beautiful classes
to watch is the "costume class". Horse and rider are dressed
in "Native Costume".  The costumes are colorful, ornate
designs with tassels, jewels, and tapestry.  It is exhilarating
to watch the beautiful horses and riders at a hand gallop
with their costumes flowing.
    While many Arabians and Half-Arabians are making their name
in the show-ring, others are making their place in our hearts. 
Many Arabians spend their life as pleasure horses.  They may
go on the occasional trail ride or spend summer afternoons
"babysitting" the kids.  Those of us who know Arabians, know what
special personalities they possess. 
     Bred to protect their masters and fight battles, Arabians
are fiercely loyal, personable and alert.  While some people
feel that their "spirit" is their downfall, Arabian owners know
that their "spirit" is what sets them apart.  When handled
"correctly", that "spirit", can mean going the extra mile in
an endurance ride, excelling to grand prix level dressage,
winning the jump-off in a jumper round, or cutting that last cow
with style and grace.  More important, that "spirit" and
loyalty can make and Arabian your best friend.
